HISTORY

Weston Industrial Estate started life as farmland as part of Joe Haydon’s farm in Weston Sub Edge. It was commandeered for the WWII RAF base where they built the officers mess, squash courts, dancing halls, watch towers and the commander’s office. The other industrials estates nearby were part of the RAF airfield housing the hangers and runways.

Once the war was over, the farmland now had buildings and a shell that could be turned into something. When Joe was asked if he would like to keep the RAF buildings, the answer was easy, and the buildings remained. Harold and Graham Haydon, son’s of Joe took over the land after Joe’s passing, with Graham working the farm itself and Harold managing the buildings.

It was another few decades before it transformed fully into Weston Industrial Estate, mainly being used for chicken processing plant and Monmouth Engineering. During the early 1970’s Harold made it into Weston Industrial Estate and started renting units.

He implemented electricity and water into the units (some locations are still a mystery today!) and grew the estate into a fully functional industrial estate for over 20 years. Building new units, knocking through old ones, maintaining old buildings, and building a community. In 1998 Harold decided to hang up his rental papers (yes everything was paper format!) and handed over to his middle Daughter Gill. Gill’s transformation of the Industrial estate was huge and over a 25 year period, brought the buildings in line with regulations, cladding old buildings to preserve them, building more new units and transforming it into what it is today. We are proud that some tenants have been with us since the beginning, over 50 years, and are still going strong.

In 2023 Gill decided it was time to retire and luckily Gill’s daughter Sarah, was ready for a change of pace and lifestyle from 12 years of corporate life within advertising and marketing. Now in it’s 4th generation of management, Sarah is proud to continue the family legacy of supporting local businesses, fostering a friendly community of like-minded business owners and once again taking the estate into a new era.
